Replacement uPVC doors: illustrative design inspiration

01 / MADE FOR THE WAY YOU LIVE

Make the everyday details work.

A back door that catches. A front entrance that feels dated. A utility door that lets in a draught. Explore replacement uPVC doors for your West Midlands home, with the panel, glazing and opening direction considered together.

A replacement entrance is more than a new panel. Think about where the door swings, how much privacy you need and whether daylight matters in the room behind it. The threshold, handle position and any adjacent glass should be considered as one opening.

Your chosen range, dimensions, finish and hardware will be confirmed in the written specification.

02 / THE DESIGN DECISIONS

Find your combination.

Explore the choices that shape your opening.

01

Front entrances

Balance privacy, daylight and a style that sits comfortably with the front of your home. Include any sidelight or top light when describing the opening.

02

Back & utility doors

Consider regular garden access, kitchen furniture and the direction of opening. A glazed section can bring light into a darker room.

03

Panel & glass choices

Compare solid panels, partly glazed designs and privacy glass. Ask which combinations are available in the chosen door system.

03 / LOOK A LITTLE CLOSER

Details worth getting right.

01

A complete doorset

Check the leaf, frame, threshold, seals and hardware as a complete specification. Reusing parts of an older opening is a separate question.

02

Practical access

Consider door swing, steps and finished floor levels. A threshold must suit the actual exposure and access needs of the property.

03

Colour & hardware

Coordinate the handle, letterplate and glass with nearby windows. Internal and external appearances may need different consideration.

04 / UNDERSTANDING YOUR QUOTE

What affects the cost of uPVC doors?

A uPVC door quote depends on the size, panel design, glazed area, colour, locking hardware and the surrounding opening. Sidelights, unusual dimensions and changes to the threshold can alter the scope. Explain whether you want a like-for-like replacement or a different arrangement.

A FEW PRACTICAL ANSWERS

Before you decide.

Can a uPVC door be used at the front and back?

uPVC doors are used in both positions. The appropriate specification depends on the opening, exposure, privacy, security and design requirements. Tell us how the entrance is used.

How is a uPVC door different from a composite door?

They use different door-leaf constructions. A composite design combines materials, while a uPVC doorset typically uses a uPVC frame and a selected panel or glazed arrangement. Compare the complete specification and appearance rather than the material name alone.

Can I have privacy glass?

Privacy glazing can be discussed for glazed sections. The pattern, light transmission and compatibility need to be confirmed for the selected design.

Should the frame be replaced too?

A complete replacement doorset normally includes a matched frame. Whether any existing component can remain needs assessment; a new leaf should not be assumed to fit an old frame.

What should I include in my enquiry?

Say whether it is a front, side or back door, include approximate dimensions and mention sidelights, steps, draughts or sticking. Exact manufacturing sizes should be confirmed separately.

PLANNING YOUR ENQUIRY

A clearer starting point.

Can a uPVC door include a side panel or top light?

Some entrance layouts combine a door with fixed glazing beside or above it. Describe the complete opening, including any existing side panels or top light. The proposed doorset, structural opening, glass and hardware need to be assessed together.

What details help with a uPVC door enquiry?

Include your postcode, approximate opening size, whether this is an existing entrance and your preferred glazing and colour. Describe internal clearance, external steps and access needs. The written proposal should identify the frame, leaf, hardware, threshold and finishing scope.
